Did you know that Oahu has one of the best public transportation systems in the country?
At least, the American Public Transit Association thinks so. The Association named TheBus,
the City & County of Honolulu's bus system, America's Best Transit System in 2000-2001.
Bus Transit Centers
In a move to make bus service even more convenient and efficient, the City has been putting
in place a Hub and Spoke Bus Route, which provides quicker and better connections for bus riders.
The hub is a transit center where buses connect to increase travel options. The spokes are
community circulators that meet up at transit centers. In Leeward Oahu, transit hubs are located
in Waianae, Kapolei, Ewa Beach and Waipahu. The system allows passengers to make quick connections
to other hubs in downtown Honolulu and throughout Oahu.

Bus riders between the Waianae Coast, Kapolei and Downtown Honolulu can beat the traffic with
faster service all day long on the CountryExpress!
Vanpool Hawaii www.vanpoolhawaii.com
Vanpools work like an express bus but on a much smaller scale. Anywhere from seven to 15
passengers can arrange to vanpool and pay monthly fares that cover the cost of owning or
leasing a van and its upkeep.
Honolulu Rapid Transit Program www.honolulutransit.org
The island's transportation system, and in particular Kapolei's, will expand when the planned
Honolulu Rapid Transit Project brings a 20-mile transit line that will connect downtown Honolulu
with two stations in Kapolei's urban core and three stations in the East Kapolei region - Ho'opili,
University of Hawaii West Oahu, and East Kapolei. All three stations are envisioned as transit-oriented
development sites that will provide a series of transportation options for residents, workers and visitors alike.
